FAQ

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. This is a state-of-the-art technique that allows physicians to observe detailed images of your body’s internal organs, muscles, nerves and other soft tissues. MRI images are produced using magnetic field and radio waves unlike x-ray equipment that uses radiation to obtain images. MRI imaging may save the cost of hospitalizations and, in many cases, the cost of numerous additional tests. To date, there are no known adverse side effects of MRI. The scanner has full approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The MRI examination is generally painless and causes little or no discomfort to you. Be aware of any metal implanted inside your body and inform the Radiologist and MRI technologist of any implants prior to being scanned. You may eat regularly before an exam, and as soon as the usual 30 to 60 minute scan is completed, you may return to your normal activities. We recommend you wear loose, comfortable clothing such as a jogging suit. Metal objects such as keys, watches, jewelry, dentures, credit cards and other metallic belongings should be left at home or with whoever accompanies you to Titan Imaging. Metal clips, fasteners, buttons, locks, eyelets, etc. on clothing may interfere with the exam. No deodorant or cosmetics should be worn during the exam. The only thing that you must do during the scan is to lie completely motionless. Any movement during the scanning process may blur the images, diminish the quality, and interfere with interpretation of the exam making it necessary to repeat parts of the scan.

The High-field Wide-bore MRI is considerably wider than a traditional MRI. Imagine the opening to be about the size of a hula hoop. The wider bore makes the exam a good option for claustrophobic, obese or broad-shouldered patients.

It is important that you do not wear any makeup or hairspray, as many of these products have tiny metal particles that could interfere with the scan and reduce the quality of the images.

Most MRI centers offer a wide array of Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging examinations. Depending on the type of exam you will receive, the length of the actual procedure will typically be between 15 and 45 minutes. A few involved MRI examinations take longer than 45 minutes.

X-ray, or radiography, refers to procedures that use standard x-rays to view parts of the body. which make x-rays extremely safe diagnostic tests. Preparation for your x-ray exam will depend on the type of exam; a Titan Imaging representative will call you prior to your appointment to provide specific instructions, and review health and insurance information.

Notify a member of Titan Imaging’s staff if you are nursing or if there is a chance you could be pregnant.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to verify your registration. After the exam – what to expect.

A radiologist who specializes in a specific area of the body will review your images (i.e., a musculoskeletal radiologist will review x-rays of your leg). The radiologist prepares a diagnostic report to share with your doctor. Your doctor will consider this information in context of your overall care, and talk with you about the results.
